JAKARTA, RAKYAT NEWS – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the upcoming G20 Summit, where discussions on global poverty reduction, hunger alleviation, and environmentally friendly energy transitions will take center stage. The summit will take place amid global calls for a fairer world and a more sustainable planet, with the overarching theme of “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.”

Prabowo’s visit to Brazil is part of a broader diplomatic agenda, which includes bilateral meetings with leaders from various countries. These discussions are expected to focus on strengthening international cooperation in addressing critical global challenges, such as economic inequality and environmental degradation.

His participation highlights Indonesia’s growing role in global diplomacy, particularly in addressing sustainability issues that affect all nations.

The Indonesian leader arrived at Galeão Air Base in Rio de Janeiro on the evening of Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11:25 p.m. local time. He was welcomed by a host of dignitaries, including Colonel Aviador Fabio Ferreira Silva, the commander of the airbase, as well as George Monteiro Prata, Brazil’s Ambassador to Indonesia. Also present to greet the president were Edi Yusup, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Brazil, and Colonel Inf. Rizal Ashwam Amanda, the Defense Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Brasília.

In a formal greeting ceremony, Prabowo, dressed in a black suit and traditional cap, disembarked from the presidential aircraft, saluting the welcoming officials.

He was escorted by an honor guard to his transport, before heading to his hotel for the duration of his stay in Brazil. His visit to Brazil is expected to involve a series of high-level meetings and discussions that will shape Indonesia’s foreign policy in the coming years.

Before heading to Brazil, President Prabowo had been in Lima, Peru, attending the 2024 APEC Summit. He left Peru on the afternoon of November 16, traveling from his accommodation in Lima to Jorge Chavez International Airport.

During his time in Peru, Prabowo held a series of important bilateral talks on the sidelines of the APEC summit, focusing on trade, investment, and regional cooperation.

On the first day of the APEC summit, President Prabowo met with Peru’s President Dina Boluarte and shared a breakfast with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The second day of the event saw further diplomatic engagements, with Prabowo meeting Vietnam’s President Luong Cuong, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. These meetings emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening economic and political ties with key countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

At the conclusion of the APEC summit, Prabowo delivered a closing speech, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation and the need for sustainable economic growth. He then departed Lima and headed for Brazil, where the G20 summit will provide another platform for discussing issues that are critical to Indonesia’s development agenda.

During the G20 Summit, President Prabowo will engage in discussions focused on combating global poverty and hunger. Leaders will also explore strategies for transitioning to more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources. This is in line with the global push for a green economy, which emphasizes the need to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy technologies.

Indonesia’s participation in the G20 summit underscores the country’s growing influence in international discussions on global economic and environmental issues. President Prabowo’s leadership in these forums is seen as a key factor in shaping Indonesia’s role in addressing global challenges and advancing solutions that benefit both developing and developed nations alike.

President Prabowo will seek to position Indonesia as a leader in advocating for the interests of emerging economies. His diplomatic efforts, both at the G20 and in bilateral meetings, will help further Indonesia’s goals of fostering sustainable development, addressing poverty, and ensuring environmental protection in an increasingly interconnected world.
